Unit 3 & 4 Overview

In units 3 and 4 for my VET class we had to complete a character design, work on an animation and construct a website to show off our work at the end of the year. This website that you're on right now is my submission of work for the website outcome.

Character Design

For the character design unit I wanted to make a character that included themes and inspiration from 2000's emo culture, I'm gonna be real honest and admit my design was just a sketch of Pete Wentz I drew before class that my teacher asked if that was my design and I was like "ermm yeah sure." I eventually had the idea to create more "in depth" characters later on in the process which only 3/4 were drawn up and 2/4 being fully coloured and "inked" (they were drawn on a computer there was no inking LOLS). I really enjoyed this unit because it was just us being able to draw what we want knowing that we were going to have to animate it eventually.

Animation

For the final animation product I deviated from my designs original vision due to time restrictions and software issues. I'm content in the simplicity of my project for being able to be something simple however, I am unsatisfied with the circumstances under which I worked which ultimately inhibited the creation of my desired animation

Structured Workplace Learning

In relation to my VET I needed to have industry experience relating to game design which was very hard to find. Specifically, an establishment that would take me on to mentor me, similar to an internship. Eventually I found out about 'Mind Games' from searching around for more retail stores that pertain to games rather than game studios and offices. Whilst working at Mind Games I learnt more about retail/brick and mortar store environments, contrasting my previous experience working in fast food customer service. I've observed customer motivations in selling and/or developing demos, I've been able to initiate conversations with people that are also undertaking similar studies and those that have heavy industry connections with major hobby and game companies, and I have opened the door to new hobbies and experiences that generally assist in reducing my screen time.
